Sherie was born in Chicago and has lived in Laurenburg, Germany, since 1997. She graduated from the New York Institute of Photography and is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the Nassauer KünstlerStammtisch and the Lahn Artists.
Artist's Statement
My interest in photography was borne from a love of nature and my desire to preserve what I see; that "fleeting moment in time". I was drawn to cameras and film primarily for their ability to precisely record these moments. That initial fascination has developed into an avenue for artistic expression.
My perpetual search for new subjects to photograph has made me appreciate the importance of simple elements that are a part of life; things that we often, through familiarity, take for granted. The study of these visual elements - shapes, texture and the interplay of light and shadow - provides me a deep sense of satisfaction. My craft relies on simple and straightforward compositions where simplicity is preserved rather than employing techniques that obscure and distort natural forms.
Photography has always been and remains multifaceted; its tells us stories of life and death, gives us insight, pleasure and pain. I am always amazed at the ease in which photography can effect emotion, insight and connection. Through my photographs, if I am able to provide a glimpse of my vision - a view through my looking glass - then it will have been a worthwhile effort.

Mein Interesse an der Fotografie entsprang meiner Liebe zur Natur und dem Bedürfnis, die Dinge, die ich sehe, jenen “flüchtigen Moment”, festzuhalten. Ich fühlte mich besonders zu Kamera und Film hingezogen, da sie es erlauben, diese Momente präzise festzuhalten. Aus dieser anfänglichen Faszination entstand meine Art des künstlerischen Ausdrucks.
Die fortwährende Suche nach neuen Objekten lehrte mich, die einfachen Elemente zu schätzen, aus denen Natur besteht. Dinge, die wir meistens gar nicht mehr wahrnehmen, da wir sie sie ständig sehen. Diese visuellen Elemente wie Formen, Beschaffenheit und das Wechselspiel von Licht und Schatten zu studieren, erfüllt mich mit großer Befriedigung.
Fotografie war und ist sehr facettenreich. Sie erzählt uns Geschichten vom Leben und Sterben, gibt uns Einsicht in Dinge und vermittelt Freude und Schmerz. Es erstaunt mich immer wieder, wie leicht Fotografie Emotionen auslösen kann, wie sie Einsicht vermittelt und Beziehungen herstellt. Wenn es mir gelingt, mit meinen Fotografien eine Ahnung meiner Vision zu vermitteln, diesen Blick durch mein Vergrößerungsglas, dann hat sich der Aufwand gelohnt.
